"Demokratiepreis" – Democracy Award in Kaufbeuren
To risk more democracy – more than 50 years later the vision of former German Chancelor Willy Brandt is more desirable than ever. Films can strengthen democratic awareness and understanding. They can express and even boost solidarity, responsibility and tolerance.
All genres including documentaries are possible in this competition. So except for the thematic specialisation, the programme is very close to the diverse mix of the first festival editions.
We thus want to promote and encourage intergenerational exchange and conversation. Depending on the available films, we may concentrate on one or two topics, to examine them in depth, such as in 2021 with the subjects "Migration" and "Sport".
The Prize for Democracy is awarded in cooperation with the Youth and Family Department of the City of Kaufbeuren.
