Festival locations
Film culture is highly regarded in the Allgäu. Many cinemas in our region are committed to and also rewarded for it – for instance when the FilmFernsehFonds Bayern (FFF Bayern) award cinemas for outstanding programmes.
What is missing in the film houses are short films, which nonetheless, as director Martin Farkas, who grew up in Kempten, says, are special jewels of film culture.
That's why filmzeit, the Allgäu authors' film festival from Kaufbeuren, was founded in 2008. Since 2020, it is also present in Kempten and Immenstadt, with exciting competitions and a cross-section of current short film productions.
So the festival cannot only expands geographically but also thematically with new competitions to promote short films.
Filmmakers and tourists can combine a visit to the festival with autumnal mountain hikes in the Allgäu, visit the monastery garden of St. Crescentia and the Fünfknopfturm in Kaufbeuren, immerse themselves in Kempten's Roman past or relax at the Great Alpsee in Immenstadt.
